【Aw pottery— オウ陶芸スタジオ 】

Aw Pottery was founded in mid-1940 by the late Mr. Aw Eng-Kwang. It used to be a very popular tourist destination in Machap, Johor until the North-South Expressway opened as most motorists bypassed the once popular stop. In 2013, Ms Aw, the youngest in the family decided to return to give the studio a new look and pour new energy. The Dragon kiln, one of the main attraction there was built in the 50s, has long since retired from operation though it still stands there as if it is ready for next work. The outdoor toilet is must see another feature. Whole toilet area is covered with pieces and pieces of ceramics and it really is aw-some!! Thirdly, You can enjoy the art of your creation as they offer pottery classes. Here we go again, it must be a beginning of the new Aw pottery legend in Machap.

1940年代の設立当初は小さな工房だったようですが、徐々に初代オーナーの作品がシンガポールやマレーシアの王族からも認められるようになりマチャプの工房はいつもたくさんの観光客で賑わっていたようです。80年代には初代オーナー家族がアメリカへ移住し、それと同時にハイウエイが出来たことで訪れる客も激減。細々と経営を続けていたようですが、2013年お孫さんにあたるMs. Awがこの工房に戻ってスタジオプロデュースを開始。一般顧客だけでなく、今では園芸関係の会社からも定評を得ているようで、新たなAw Potteryが歩きだしているようです。
