【Millionaires’ Row in Melaka マラッカ富豪ストリート 】

Jalan Tun Cheng Lock is located just a row behind the Jonker Street and one of the oldest streets in Melaka. It was nicknamed Millionaires’ Row as most of the Peranakan millionaires of Melaka pioneer lived on this street. One of the houses on the street turned into a hotel now, where I stayed was built in 1822 and well preserved its unique architecture. The most I like it about this hotel is that they got a really beautiful courtyard and I had a simple yet sophisticated breakfast surrounded by lots of green. Melaka has got its own heritage and many historic attractions, as well as well known Nyonya cuisine!

先日久しぶりに訪れたマラッカ。今回はジョンカーストリートに近いHotel Puri Melakaに泊まりました。かつてこの通りは当時のペラナカン富豪たちがこぞって大邸宅を築いて住んでいた事からミリオナーストリートと呼ばれたそうです。外見は間口の狭い長屋風の家々が連なっているのですが奥行きはなんと100mと深い。この広い空間を豪華な設備、そして高級なインテリアを揃えた富豪たちの超セレブ生活を想像してしまいます。このホテル、築100年とは思えないモダンなつくりで、らせん階段は同時のままだぞうです。床は一面の大理石。そしてモザイク調の床に張ったタイルは当時イギリスから輸入されたというクラッシックものです。中庭がまた素晴らしい！四方を建物に囲まれているのに、立体感や遠近感が出されたその空間に花や木が上手に配置されている。。。癒される素晴らしいセンスの緑に囲まれたリッチな朝食でした。
