【Where to go in Johor—Lim’s Durian Farm(リムドリアンファーム）】
The season has just arrived for Durian lovers!! Although not everyone would agree it, some people regard it as the king of fruit. There are at least 10 types of durians from Malaysia. The Mao Shan Wang (猫山王）is the most popular one recently while D24 used to be well liked durian which is said to be the strongest smell of all. What we tasted at Lim’s Durian farm was from other parts of Johor, called D101. I like it because of the milder taste and creamy texture, furthermore no strong smell at all. The price will vary depends on the supply and demand though we paid RM28/kg at the time. (more than I expected) Harvesting mature fruits is very simple: allow the fruits to drop! There is a saying in Bahasa “Durian Runtuh” which refer to receiving an unexpected luck or fortune! Well, Durian is such a precious gift to us.

ジョホールから車で小一時間のポンティアンにあるリムドリアンファームは、現在息子さんの２代目リムジュニアが店を担当しています。彼がお店の裏庭にある５エーカーの果樹園をゆっくり案内してくださいました。ここにはドリアンは勿論のことマンゴスチン、パイナップル、マンゴ、スターフルーツ、グアバなどなど沢山の熱帯果実が育っています。これから８月頃までがこのファームの大忙しの収穫時期だそうで、それに合わせフルーツピッキングやテイスティングも可能だそうです。マレーシアでは落ちるドリアンを待っている様子から、日本語の”棚ぼた”と同じ意味合いで”Durian Runtuh”(ドリアン・ルントッウ）と表現するフレーズがあるそうです。ドリアンはそれだけ貴重で人気の品なんですね。
